As of 14 April 2026, Suomi.fi Messages will be activated when you log in to public authorities´ digital services.

How you identify yourself in Suomi.fi service will change. When you identify for the first time in Mela´s or an authority’s e-service, you will be directed to activate Suomi.fi Messages. This change applies to adults who use digital services but have not yet activated Suomi.fi Messages.

How does this change affect me?

  • Starting 14 April 2026, Suomi.fi Messages will be activated automatically when you log in using Suomi.fi identification for the first time.
  • When activating the service you are asked to enter your email address. You will receive email notifications of new Suomi.fi messages to your email.
  • Suomi.fi Messages will not be available if you don´t have a Finnish personal identity code.
  • When you have activated Suomi.fi Messages you will receive messages and decisions from several public authorities to your electronic Suomi.fi inbox.

For the time being, this change will not affect how Mela communicates with you. You will continue to receive decisions and notifications to our e-Service or by mail, as you have until now.

Please note that you can always switch back to paper mail if you wish, even after having activated Suomi.fi Messages. You can stop using Suomi.fi Messages and return to paper mail in the Suomi.fi service, always for one year at a time.
