If you are coming to Finland to work on a grant or scholarship that has been awarded by a body in Finland, and if you plan to live and work in Finland, check whether you have an obligation to insure your grant or scholarship work.
You can check whether insurance is compulsory for your grant or scholarship here: General information about pension insurance for grant and scholarship recipients.
EU/ETA or Switzerland
Grant recipients from the EU/ETA or Switzerland working in Finland will be insured if the other conditions for obtaining insurance are fulfilled. If you have an A1 certificate certifying that you are covered by the social security system of another country while working in Finland, you will not be issued insurance by Mela.
If you are coming to Finland from another country outside the EU/ETA or Switzerland, Mela will clarify your insurance obligations on an individual basis according to the information you have provided in your insurance application.
