Events and the processing of personal data

The EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requires that you are informed about how your personal data is processed by the Farmers’ Social Insurance Institution Mela when you register for an event.

Why and on what grounds is your personal data processed by Mela?

Your personal data is required to help prepare for the event and implement its programme. Mela cannot manage the arrangements related to the event without your personal data.

When you register for an event, a contract is formed between you and Mela. Your personal data is processed to implement the contract. The information you provide when registering for the event is not used by Mela for any other purposes.

Mela’s right to obtain and disclose your personal data

By registering for an event, you agree that Mela may disclose the necessary information about you to the parties organising the programme, meals or accommodation at the event.

Mela does not obtain information about you from others, nor does it disclose your information to others without your consent. You can withdraw your consent later if you wish.

You are entitled to check your data

You are entitled, if you wish, to find out what data is kept about you on Mela’s registers. You may also obtain a copy of your personal data.

You may request that imprecise or incorrect personal data be corrected. You may also supplement incomplete personal data if it is relevant to the processing of your personal data.

Other rights related to the processing of personal data

You can request that your personal data be removed from Mela’s registers. In addition, you can ask Mela to limit the processing of your personal data if you think they are incorrect or are being processed illegally. In this case, Mela may process your data only with your consent or for the purposes specifically mentioned in the General Data Protection Regulation.

Personal data requests and complaints

Personal data requests and replies are generally free of charge. If Mela does not take action regarding your personal data on the basis of your request, you will receive notification of this within one month. If your request cannot be fulfilled, Mela will give a reason.

If you are dissatisfied with Mela’s resolution of your claim concerning your personal data or if you consider that Mela has violated the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation in the processing of your personal data, you are entitled to file a complaint with the Data Protection Officer.

Storage of your personal data

The information you provide when registering for an event will be stored in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation for as long as it is necessary to fulfil the purposes of the data processing. The storage period for personal data is usually half a year after the event.
