A foreigner from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland

On the basis of Section 8a of the Farmers’ Pensions Act (MYEL), a foreigner who is living in Finland and has received a grant/scholarship from Finland can be insured. Grant/scholarship recipients are not, however, required to live in Finland if Finland’s social security legislation is applicable to them on the basis of the EU Social Security Regulations.

Persons who arrive from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland for the purpose of carrying out grant/scholarship work in Finland fall within the sphere of Finland’s social security legislation by virtue of the EU Social Security Regulations, unless they can present proof that they are covered by the social security system of another country during the period of grant/scholarship work in Finland.
